Why Choose Clinical Pilates at Excelsius Wellness?
Standard Pilates classes follow a rigid, one-size-fits-all routine. Clinical Pilates is explicitly dynamic. Every movement is chosen to address your specific structural imbalances, avoiding exercises that could aggravate existing pathologies or pain.
Our clinical small-group classes and 1-on-1 sessions deliver distinct physical milestones:
Targeted Core & Spinal Support: Build deep stabilizer muscle endurance to directly reduce lumbar stiffness and spine loading.
Injury Rehabilitation & Management: Safely move through structural rehabilitation for hip, knee, neck, and lower back injuries.
Postural Correction & Precision: Retrain faulty muscle patterns caused by prolonged sitting, desk work, or physical imbalances.
Expert Clinical Oversight: Every class is delivered by our trained Physiotherapist, Paulo Silva, or our Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Chloe Campbell
Who Can Benefit From Our Clinical Classes?
Our targeted equipment and mat sessions are mathematically scaled to match your current functional capacity:
Chronic Lower Back & Neck Pain Sufferers: Re-engage deep multifidus and transversus abdominis muscles to create an internal support brace for your spine.
Post-Operative & Rehab Patients: Systematically rebuild range of motion and joint stability following joint surgeries or sporting injuries.
Pre & Post-Natal Women: Maintain safe pelvic floor integrity, core tone, and reduce pregnancy-related sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pain.
Athletes Seeking Performance Gains: Eliminate hidden asymmetrical muscle weaknesses to drastically lower your risk of field injuries.
Clinical Pilates vs. Reformer Pilates: What is the Difference?
While both styles utilize specialized equipment like the Pilates Reformer to build functional strength, they serve entirely different physical health objectives
The Class Structure & Program Design
Reformer Pilates: Typically structured as a large, fitness-based group class (often 10 to 15+ participants) where everyone follows the exact same exercise sequence dictated by an instructor.
Clinical Pilates: Operates in a strictly controlled, small-group or 1-on-1 framework. Even though you are in a shared space, you are performing an individual program engineered explicitly for your injury profile, pathology, or structural goals.
Clinical Supervision & Qualifications
Reformer Pilates: Led by general fitness or Pilates instructors who focus on general conditioning, high-repetition workouts, and overall caloric burn.
Clinical Pilates: Exclusively prescribed and supervised by university-trained allied health professionals; either a Physiotherapist or an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. This ensures every joint angle, loading pattern, and spinal position is medically managed.
Private Health Insurance Rebates
Reformer Pilates: Because these classes are classified as general fitness and are not custom-prescribed to treat a specific diagnosed condition, they are not eligible for private health insurance rebates.
Clinical Pilates: Because our sessions are individual diagnostic treatments managed by registered healthcare professionals (like Paulo and Chloe), they are typically claimable under Private Health Insurance (depending on your provider and level of cover).
How to Get Started: Your Initial Assessment
To maintain strict clinical safety and ensure you get maximum results, all new participants must complete an Initial Clinical Assessment.
During this 1-on-1 session, our practitioner will mapping your current injury status, measure baseline joint mobility, and isolate specific muscle imbalances. We will then engineer your personalized program layout, teaching you the foundational breathing and muscle activation mechanics needed before you join a group class.

Clinical Pilates
Our most personalized class offering. Clinical Pilates is delivered with a maximum of four participants per class, with each person following their own individually prescribed program. Led by a qualified Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist, sessions use specialized Pilates equipment including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and Springboard.
Ideal for: Injury rehabilitation, chronic health conditions, post-surgery recovery, or anyone who requires closer supervision and exercise modification. Also an excellent starting point for beginners who want to build confidence, strength, and movement skills at their own pace.
Hybrid Circuit Classes
A dynamic, higher-intensity option combining strength-based exercises with Pilates equipment in a supportive group environment. Classes accommodate up to six participants, and while sessions are not individually tailored, our instructors provide modifications to ensure every movement is safe and appropriate for your current fitness level.
Ideal for: Those looking to build strength, improve fitness, and enjoy the energy of a group setting. Suitable for beginners and experienced participants alike.
Small Group Strength Training
Progressive, functional strength training in a small group of four to five participants, led by a qualified Exercise Physiologist. Classes focus on movement patterns that translate to everyday life, improving strength, balance, mobility, and overall physical function.
Bone Health Focus: We also offer dedicated bone health strength classes specifically designed for women during and after menopause. These evidence-based sessions apply targeted loading principles to build muscle strength, improve balance, and support bone health, reducing the risk of osteoporosis in a safe, encouraging environment.
Seniors Strength and Balance
Designed to help older adults stay strong, active, and independent, our Seniors classes are led by a qualified Exercise Physiologist and focus on strength, mobility, balance, coordination, and falls prevention. Sessions incorporate functional exercises suited to a range of abilities, helping participants maintain the strength and confidence needed for everyday activities.
Community Note: These classes are some of our most popular at Excelsius, and it is easy to see why. With a warm, welcoming atmosphere, plenty of encouragement, and a real sense of community, participants often tell us the friendships they build here are just as valuable as the fitness benefits.
