WHAT IS AN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST?
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-qualified allied health professional who specialises in designing and delivering safe, effective exercise programs for people with chronic health conditions, injuries, or specific health and performance goals.
Unlike a personal trainer, an exercise physiologist is clinically trained to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of medical conditions using exercise as medicine. Their programs are evidence-based, highly individualised, and designed to produce long-term improvements in function, strength, and quality of life.
Exercise physiology is Medicare rebatable under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP, and is recognised by all major private health funds, NDIS, WorkCover, DVA, and CTP.

Part of a Complete Allied Health Team
Exercise physiology works best as part of a coordinated care approach. At Excelsius, Chloe works alongside our physiotherapist Paulo Silva and remedial massage therapists, so your treatment can be seamlessly integrated across disciplines when needed.
If you’re unsure whether you need exercise physiology, physiotherapy, or remedial massage, contact us and our team will point you in the right direction.
Your First Visit
Your initial exercise physiology appointment begins with a comprehensive assessment covering your health history, current medications, movement capacity, strength, and your personal goals. From there, Chloe will develop a personalised exercise program and walk you through exactly what your plan involves and why.
Sessions are one-on-one, fully supervised, and adapted over time as you progress. You’ll leave every appointment with clarity on what to do and confidence in how to do it.

No. You can book directly without any referral. If you’d like to claim Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP. Otherwise, private health fund extras cover or out-of-pocket payment applies.
Physiotherapy focuses on the diagnosis and hands-on treatment of acute injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. Exercise physiology uses exercise as medicine to manage chronic conditions, support rehabilitation after the acute phase, and improve long-term health and function. The two services complement each other well, and many of our clients see both. If you’re unsure which is right for you, contact us and we’ll help you decide.
An exercise physiologist is a university-qualified allied health professional clinically trained to work with people with medical conditions, injuries, and complex health needs. A personal trainer is a fitness professional focused on general health and performance for otherwise healthy individuals. Exercise physiology is Medicare rebatable; personal training is not.
Yes, and this is one of Chloe’s core areas of specialisation. Exercise is one of the most effective evidence-based tools for managing menopause symptoms, protecting bone density, maintaining muscle mass, and supporting mental wellbeing through hormonal changes. Chloe designs personalised programs specifically for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause.
This depends on your condition and goals. Your initial assessment will give Chloe a clear picture of what’s needed. Some clients benefit from a short program of 6 to 8 sessions; others with chronic conditions benefit from ongoing support as part of a long-term management plan.
Absolutely, and for many conditions a combined approach produces better outcomes. Our allied health team can coordinate your care across disciplines so your treatment works as a cohesive plan rather than separate appointments.
